This week, I’m doing a writers linkup hosted by Maya Joyelle (here’s her post)! So, I’ll be doing it for the MC of a new WIP (Work In Progress) that I’m working on!
1 // Introduce your MC. What’s their name? Age? Appearance? (Sharing collages/inspiration photos encouraged!)
Her name is Hanna Lee, as said above, and she goes by Anna. She’s eighteen, and she has gray eyes, and dyed hair that goes from silver-white at the top to midnight blue at the bottom. She’s a writer, and when she steps into Insor (long story short, a fantasy world where artists change form into fantasy creatures based on what arts they practice), she takes the form of a midnight-blue dragon.
Faceclaims (I couldn’t find any with the hair color I wanted, so they all have white hair):
2 // Explain how your MC fits into the plot of your book (as best you can without spoiling it all…).
Well, she’s the main character. She’s the one who finds the portal to Insor, and the one who leads them through the strange land, because, as a writer, she is used to this kind of place more than the others.
She is also the leader of her group of friends, both in the real world and in the fantasy world. When the war happens, she takes leadership in battle and protects her friends.
3 // What’s the first thing your MC says in the story? The last? A random quote from the middle that you like?
So…. I’m still in the mid-writing process for this story, so I don’t really have quotes yet. Sorry. I guess I’ll have to skip this one.
4 // Which other character would die for your MC?
James. For sure. James is Anna’s boyfriend, but they’ve been best friends before that since third grade.
5 // Would your MC die for them?
Yeah, probably. But I’m not really as sure on this one, to be honest. Anna would definitely risk her life for James, but if she knew she would die… I don’t know. Honestly, maybe not, but maybe. My characters tend to be unpredictable like that.
6 // Have any major details about your MC changed since you first created them?
I mean, I guess. At first, Anna never changed to a dragon, so I guess that’s pretty major. And Anna used to not even know James, now she and him are in a romantic relationship, sooo. That’s about it though.
7 // What characters (from books/movies not by you) remind you of your MC? Why?
Peter from the Chronicles of Narnia, because she isn’t too keen about being in the fantasy world, but she stays because she needs to protect the others.
Saphira from the Inheritance Cycle, because she has a good sense of humor around people she feels safe with, and, I mean, they’re both blue dragons, do I have to say more?
Claire from Sugar on Ice, because she loves to hang out with her younger brothers.
8 // Share your MC’s favorites!
[ color, food, type of clothing, place, type of music, season, smell, etc. ]
Favorite color: Blue
Food: hot cocoa, cookies
type of clothing: jeans and sweaters
favorite place: her room when it’s raining and she has soft music going
season: fall. she lives in Maine and the leaves are so beautiful!
smell: the spring wind after a long winter. it smells like new life.
animal: fox. because they are sneaky and smart (and also cute, but she won’t admit that in front of her brothers)
9 // If your MC wasn’t involved in your story, what would they be doing? (Basically: what’s their dream life? Where do they want to live, what do they want to do?)
She would graduate high school, go to college, and become a teacher. After a few years, she would get married, have two kids (hopefully a girl and a boy) and write stories for them. After the story is done, she still hopes for that, but doesn’t know if she’ll be able to marry the person she wants to anymore, not after what happened…
10 // Share a fun extra (another collage, a playlist, a scene from the story, a drawing, etc.).
Uhm. K. I guess I’ll do a scene from the story then.
Here ya go!
Becks stepped through the portal behind Jack, closing her eyes as her face collided with the deep blue, sparkling wall of… nothing. It wasn’t a wall, it was a curtain. Becks waved her hands around, but felt nothing.
Her heart leaped in fear. She opened her eyes, expecting to see blackness, but instead, she was surrounded by sparkling lights.
They looked like stars, but of every different color, and they swirled and twirled around, some flashing bright, some dimming and disappearing. Always more, always less, always on a backdrop of black.
Some were closer and larger, some smaller. The closer ones looked more like the portal Becks had just stepped through.
Just ahead of her, Becks saw a portal that was the same shade of deep blue. She looked just behind her, and noticed at her back, the portal she just walked through.
She could see the little shed through the deep blue glow. She could see Charlie and Ella in the room. Charlie stepped through the portal, and Becks jerked back, expecting him to run into her. But he wasn’t there.
Becks realized that each person was alone in their own black wonder.
She wondered if the other portals led to places. If the others saw the same thing as her, or if they saw something else. Could they see the other portals like she could? Could they see more than her? Could they see where the portals led?
Becks watched as Ella stepped through the portal. She took a deep breath. She had to move through the next portal, to whatever world lay there. She could see the way back to her world, and she could see that the others were not there, so they must have been waiting on the other side.
Becks walked up to the portal opposite her, the one of the same color. She couldn’t see through it.
She took a deep breath, and stepped through it.
Sorry it doesn’t have Hanna in it. I just realized that. But this is an important part of the story, and I thought it would be a good snippet to have. Hanna was the first one to walk through the portal, so that’s kinda why she wasn’t in this snippet.
Thanks for reading! I might end up doing character profiles of the other characters in this story as a separate post later, I really liked this! So keep an eye out for that!
